Lagos Badagry Expressway: Julius Berger Return To Site

Lagos Badagry Expressway: Julius Berger Return To Site

The hope of completing the Lot one of the Lagos Badagry Expressway (LBE) has increased with the return to site of the main contractor, Messrs Julius Berger Nig Plc., who is handling the road component of the 10 lane highway cum light rail project being undertaken by the Lagos State Government.
Workers of Messrs Julius Berger Nig Plc were seen cleaning up and desilting the road at Alaba Suuru prior to laying Asphalt while also surveying the outstanding portion between the Mile 2 and Mazamaza before the commencement of final construction work.
Commenting on the return of the contractor to site, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ajibade Bade-Adebowale, observed that the return, like those of other projects, is a prelude to delivering on all the various projects being undertaken by the Ministry, adding that in this particular instance of LBE the contractor had to stop for contractors of the Light Rail project, Messrs CCECC, to install the rail stations and Rail lines across the corridor.
The Permanent Secretary, who also disclosed that the contractor handling the Multi-Agency Building at Alausa has also resumed work and is presently “fleshing-up” the structure, assured that in spite of the need to increase the pace of work on ongoing projects, adequate attention is being paid to the funding source as well.
He also pointed out that a new contractor will soon be appointed for the Ayinke House project, being upgraded to a Specialist Paediatric hospital, after the old contract must have been terminated due to the inability of the current contractor to deliver the project on time.
While urging other contractors to return to their project sites as soon as possible in order to increase the tempo of work, he disclosed that the State Government is addressing all issues relating to most ongoing projects with a view to ensuring that they are delivered on scheduled.
He further promised that Lagosians will soon begin to feel the impact of the State Government when the plan to empower LG/LCDAs to deliver at least 20 roads each comes on stream, stressing that such plan will not only improve the road network but also impact on the local economy in each area.
The Permanent Secretary, however, reiterated that the road stock of the State had been boosted in the last 100days with the completion of 10 different roads across the State.
The completed roads include Oluwadare Street in Somolu and Adekunle Kuye Street in Surulere local government where comprehensive rehabilitation and upgrade were undertaken.
Others are Babatunde Bakare Street, Kila Street, Ilara Palace road, Oligbe, Shrine, Mosque and back of Palace Roads in Epe; Eluku Road, Olakeshin Okeogun Street, Ikorodu; Oriokuta Road Owutu, Bayo Oyelana Street, Adegun/Kike, Adeyemi Roads, Ejigbo, in Oshodi-Isolo and Ajara-Erekiti, Irangan-Ikoga, Mowo-Ikoga Roads in Badagry.
