MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -The North All-Stars defeated the South All-Stars 9-0 in the Double-A Southern League All-Star game on Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery.
Birmingham Barons' player Tim Anderson was named the All-Star MVP.
Fans had a chance to meet and watch the players in action through events leading up to the once-in-a-decade event.
"It's hard to describe to the community, the River Region, what this really means, and in terms baseball and how special it is," says Montgomery Biscuits owner Sherrie Myers. "If you don't have a ticket you will regret it."
On Monday, fans had the chance to meet the All-Star players in downtown Montgomery at the All-Star Social in The Alley.
WSFA 12 Sports Director Jeff Shearer and Biscuits play-by-play announcer Aaron Vargas took turns introducing the players.
Among the players at the social was former Faulkner Eagle Corey Black, who is a current pitcher for the Tennessee Smokies.
If you miss the 2015 All-Star Southern League game, you'll have to wait another decade before it comes back. Dozens of top players are making their way to Montgomery, bringing in Major League officials, along with fans from all over.
Leaders say hosting such an important game is a grand slam for Montgomery.
"It's really a collection of the best players in the Southern League, which is Double-A baseball, so you are talking about the best prospects in all of baseball," explains Biscuits General Manager Scott Trible,
The players are selected from ten different teams through a voting process. Many of them you will see again in the big leagues, just like former Biscuits player Evan Longoria.
"Guys go in from this league to be Major League superstars," Trible said. "Guys like former Biscuits [player] Evan Longoria and David Price. That's the type of talent that will be here Tuesday night, so it's a great experience if you are fan of baseball sports or just an entertaining evening."
"The percentage of players that you will see playing in the Southern League All-Star game is a very high percentage that you will see them in the majors," Myers said. "How soon? Maybe in less than a week! Some of the athletes set to play in the game have already been called up."
